Pact to Weave a More Sustainable Future

In Catalonia, the textile sector is being transformed to make it more circular. The Department of Climate Action has promoted a pioneering, open and transversal initiative with the collaboration of the entire textile value chain.

Catalonia has always been characterised by its strong textile industry. Today, Europe stands out for its enormous potential to make the most of textile waste: we have a long tradition of factories that use recycled textile materials in their manufacturing.

The Pact for Circular Fashion is born through a long process of dialogue and agreement at a time when key measures are being defined to mitigate the effects of climate catastrophe and advance the circular economy.

It is a voluntary agreement between entities and companies from the different regions of the textile value chain in Catalonia that will facilitate the inclusion of circularity measures, encourage collaborative projects and improve competitiveness.

The pact has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of different sectors:

  • Designers
  • Production and marketing companies.
  • Fibre, yarn and fabric manufacturers
  • Equipment suppliers
  • Industrial services.
  • Waste managers
  • Recoverers
  • Insertion companies.
  • Local and supra-municipal administrations
  • Generalitat de Catalunya.
  • Universities
  • Research and technology centres
  • Environmental sector.

The aim is to promote eco-design and the use of recycled fibres, reduce the generation of waste and increase the reuse and recycling of textiles.
